Well, it’s been several months since my birthday trip to the Pacific Northwest and I’m slowly getting caught up with editing photos and writing posts. Today, I introduce you to Steelhead Diner Chef Anthony Polizzi who was flattered when he saw my camera and demonstrated the proper way to shuck an oyster. (more…)

Last Friday seemed like a Saturday. I spent the morning paddling three miles on the Wakulla River with outfitters The Wilderness Way. It was a must needed change from sitting in the office. Located less than a 20-minute drive from Tallahassee, I enjoyed a leisurely and relaxing kayaking trip with tons of opportunities to spot birds, gorgeous spider webs, magnificent trees, majestic manatees and humans bow fishing.

This Bud’s for Steven Slater, the “rogue” JetBlue flight attendant who not only did what some in the airline industry dream of doing, but for doing what anyone who has worked in the service industry would secretly like to do – at least I would. Here’s a quick recap of Salter’s move: after being treated with disrespect, he told the passenger off using words the passenger had said to him, grabbed a few cold ones and made a dramatic exit down the airplane’s inflatable slide. Family visited last week, my brother and his two kids from New York. It was a bit rainy due to Tropical Storm Bonnie heading our way (which later fizzled out) but they still enjoyed the great outdoors of Charlotte Harbor & the Gulf Islands. Check out all we found in about 30 minutes.

Honestly, I think about my March 2006 Afghanistan trip daily and wonder how the people I met are doing. Earlier this week a representative with Global Exchange, which I traveled on one of their Afghanistan Reality Tours, contacted me regarding this post (Laughing in Afghanistan) requesting to post it on their blog. In respect of timing, I’ve posted this image showing a young girl’s hands holding a Koran while praying. Not sure what it is about this photo but it’s one of my favorites from the trip. (more…)

I’m still relishing in the amazing weekend I had a few days ago over in Northeast Florida and really wish every day could be like that. You saw my photos from Big Talbot Island State Park, all of them except this week’s Wordless Wednesday snapshot. It looks like a piece of a board but not a surfboard typically found on beaches.

One of the groovy things I got to do during my trip to New York last month was take a walking tour of Brooklyn with Context Travel. The guide, called a docent, pointed out Brooklyn’s cool little things such as these cobblestone streets. Love it and hope you do, too. (more…)
