Tampa Bay Rays Manager Joe Maddon with His Auburn Colored Hair Speaks with Media, Port Charlotte, Fla., Feb. 20, 2012

Wearing boot-cut blue jeans, a pair of Vans, a two-toned blue Rays jersey, dark shades and donning what some called auburn-colored hair at today’s pre-spring training press conference at the Charlotte Sports Park in Port Charlotte, Fla., there’s no doubt Tampa Bay Rays’ Manager Joe Maddon has some serious style. I’m no expert in fashion or baseball but over the past four years during Tampa Bay Rays Spring Training I’ve observed Mr. Maddon’s constantly evolving look.

Visiting Orioles Spring Training Stadium in Sarasota

Saturday I journeyed an hour north to see the Baltimore Orioles play the Boston Red Sox during spring training play. What I ended up actually doing was explore the renovated Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota, spring training home to the Orioles. It’s a fabulous stadium and it wasn’t my intent to spend so much time discovering its nooks and crannies but since I purchased an “affordable” ticket (yeah, I’m cheap and picked up a Standing Room Only ticket for $10 plus service charge) and couldn’t find a comfortable vantage point to watch the game, I spent my time wandering.

Wordless Wednesday: Heads Up! Fly Ball!

It’s the end of February here in Port Charlotte, Fla., which means 2011 Spring Training Season for the Tampa Bay Rays is in full swing at the Charlotte Sports Park. Since Monday was President’s Day and I had the day off, I spent the morning watching players practice, chatting with fans and constantly looking up when players as Manny Ramirez took the batting cage and balls were flying into the spectator area. I was speaking with a fan who had brain surgery in December and I was really worried she’d take one in the head. Thankfully, that didn’t happen.

Honestly, I’m not really a baseball fan but love the energy around spring training. Enjoy these snapshots.

Wordless Wednesday: Spring Training 2011

My day job allows me access to pretty cool things. Yesterday, we coordinated the media lunch for the Tampa Bay Rays pre-spring training press conference. I think it went pretty well. On a personal level, I’d like to thank Lock ‘n Key Restaurant of Englewood, Place in the Sun Vacation Rentals and In Your Face Cupcakes of Punta Gorda for “bringing a dish to pass” for this event.

The food was AMAZING! The lunch was well received and in the PR world it’s best to make friends while feeding tummies good food and company.

Enjoy these snapshots from the day and if planning a trip to Port Charlotte for spring training, check out my tips for planning a visit.
