Last night I wandered down to Fishermen’s Village in Punta Gorda, Fla., to snap photos of holiday lights. You’ll have to wait for Wednesday to see some snapshots but you don’t have to wait to learn about Naples Soap Company at the Village.

As the clerk described it, Naples Soap Company is “a candy store for the senses” with all the luscious aromas and vibrant colors. I added, “but without the calories.”

Slabs of handmade chunky soap emitting scents as cherry and almond and strawberry shortcake smell as though they should be edible. But don’t be fooled, the soap is meant to clean the body as the clerk recounted a story about a visitor who really wanted to taste the soap. Although advised against it, he did. The verdict? The soaps don’t taste as good as they smell, as it should be.

Products are made from natural and/or organic ingredients and essential oils provide the powerful scents.

In addition to soap the Naples Soap Company sells other bath-related items as bath bombs (they fizz in the water), bath accessories and shampoo bars. I picked up a cantaloupe scented shampoo bar thinking it would be great for traveling – since it’s a solid and not in a liquid format.

I was a bit skeptical if it would work but I’m happy to say it really lathered up, my hair felt clean and was really soft afterward. Yup, the shampoo bar is a keeper.

I ended up picking up several items as Christmas gifts and hope they’ll be appreciated. If not, I’d be happy to take them and give them a good home in my bathroom.

The original Naples Soap Company shop is in Naples with additional shops in Fort Myers and Myrtle Beach, S.C.
